The soul of Rioja

A wine culture shaped over two millennia, a cuisine forged in the kitchens of medieval monasteries, and a table philosophy that puts quality above all else.

🍇
Rioja wine culture

Rioja has been producing wine since Roman times, but it was 19th-century Bordeaux influence that shaped the modern style. Oak-aged Tempranillo, blended with Garnacha, Mazuelo, or Graciano, produces wines of extraordinary depth and longevity. Today, over 600 registered bodegas interpret that heritage in their own way.

Winery experiences

From historic 19th-century bodegas in Haro’s Barrio de la Estación to Frank Gehry’s titanium masterpiece at Marqués de Riscal — La Rioja offers wine experiences that blend architecture, art, and great bottles. Most bodegas welcome visits with advance notice. Tastings range from simple pours to multi-course wine and food pairings.

🍴
La Rioja gastronomy

Slow-roasted Navarrico lamb, pimientos del piquillo stuffed with bacalao, white asparagus from Calahorra, and the finest olive oil from the region’s own groves. Logroño’s Calle Laurel serves all of it, glass of Crianza in hand — a ritual the locals perform every evening without fail.

Harvest season

September and October transform the region. Vineyards turn gold and crimson, bodegas fill with the scent of fermenting grapes, and harvest festivals take over village squares across La Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. The grape harvest is both a celebration and an art form here.
